As I said before the sound effects made each punch, kick, jump, or hit palpable. Though never much of a fight game fan, I enjoyed this form of rpg battle system immensely. This game actually waged battle between players characters and the in game monsters by utilizing combo attack moves identical to the well known arcade genre of fighter video games ( a la Street Fighter franchise, Mortal Kombat to name the greats still around in the present). For battle there were simply voice overs for attacks, hits landed, and sayings of victory of defeat after a battle. Following the many meetings between other protagonists and antagonists, enemies and friends alike, Legend of Legaia had a fresh feeling as one could wander through the mist in the wide world, very much making real the oft humorously hinted at "mysterious and unknown wild" that is a key point in adventure and party games and stories both. The prize is a sweet confection that restores HP ( rpg lingo for health, the main factor in it and just about most games). Without going ton too much further detail on that specific subject, one can basically battle a large group of mutated honey bees that are a few levels above ones own. Right off the bat one can explore the village and if done correctly, there is actually the opportunity to encounter a very tough battle early on within the confines of the village walls. Seemingly like any other day, this young man, named Vahn, never suspects his world will change forever with the steps he takes out his front door. In this village was safety achieved fore the currents of air that flowed our from the wide world managed to stay the corrupting hand of the mist that had wickedly stolen the world.

Behind three large walls was a tiny community of fishermen and hunters situated facing the sea. Humanity was pushed to the brink and all the world was thought lost beyond the few walls pockets of people had escaped behind.

The seru and most animals mutated into wicked versions of themselves. After time though it seemed that a new threat emerged as a strange fog engulfed one land after another in a more than usual unnatural fashion. People used the Seru, symbiotic creatures fused with bodies to augment all capabilities. Long ago humans had greater knowledge of science in all of its parts enough to tap into elemental forces that we believed we could master. SOME SPOILERS!!! Borrowing slightly from very obscure legends and myths of the world, the game takes place long after a veritable extinction agenda scenario.
